MobilePay Is Becoming Vipps: What Changes for Your Club
MobilePay gets a new icon today and a new name, Vipps, on 12 January 2027. What changes for the people buying from your fridge, what does not for the treasurer, and the one thing to do in January.

On 6 October 2026 MobilePay announced that the app is changing its name. From 12 January 2027 the app on 4.7 million Danish phones is called Vipps. The icon changes first: from today the familiar phone-and-banknote is replaced by a one-eyed smiley, still in MobilePay's blue.
If your club takes payments through MobilePay, here is what that means. The short version is: very little, and nothing you have to do this year.
What is actually changing
The name and the icon. That is the whole list. MobilePay's own announcement says the app will be exactly the same as today: contacts, payment agreements, history and everything else carry over on their own, and users do not have to do anything.
The reason is the 2022 merger of Danish MobilePay with Norwegian Vipps. The company has been called Vipps MobilePay since then, and it now wants one name and one logo across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. In Denmark and Finland the app stays blue; in Norway and Sweden it is orange.
What it means for the people buying from the fridge
For a member standing at the clubhouse fridge, the payment works exactly as it does now. They scan the code on the door, scan what they take, and tap pay. Their phone opens the same app, which from January has a different name and icon on the home screen.
The only thing worth preparing for is confusion. Someone will stand at the fridge in January, look for the MobilePay icon, and not find it. A line on the noticeboard in the new year saying "MobilePay is now called Vipps, same app, same number" saves a few of those conversations.
What it means for the treasurer
Nothing changes in the club's agreement. The club's MobilePay payment agreement is already with Vipps MobilePay, the business portal has carried that name for a while, and the fees, the payouts and the bank account they land in are untouched. The guide to MobilePay for club sales is as true in 2027 as it was when we wrote it; read "Vipps" where it says "MobilePay".
Nothing changes in Bippa either. Bippa raises every payment against the club's own sales unit through Vipps MobilePay's payment API, which is the same system before and after the rename. A sale that is paid is still recorded the moment it is paid, the stock still goes down, and the money still goes straight to the club.
The one thing to do in January
The poster on the fridge says "Pay with MobilePay". When the app changes its name, the wording in the buy flow and on the poster follows it, so print a fresh poster in January and swap it. It takes two minutes and it means the sign on the door matches the icon on the phone.
Until then, leave everything as it is. The number of clubs that need to act on this announcement before the new year is zero.
If your club is still taking cash at the fridge and the rename has you looking at MobilePay for the first time, see how self-checkout with MobilePay works and put the sticker on the door before the name changes.
