Add a product

Scan the barcode and Bippa fills in the name. You set the price, decide whether to count it, and it is on sale.

A product is anything a buyer can take: a can, a bar, a homemade cake. Adding it takes a minute. Restocking it is a separate step, so add the products first and put the stock in afterwards.

Add one

  1. Click Products in the left menu, then New product.
  2. If your browser can use the camera, click Scan and hold the barcode inside the frame. Bippa looks the number up in Open Food Facts, an open product database, and fills in the name when it finds one. Check it reads the way your members would say it. On an iPhone, or if the camera is blocked, type the number into Barcode instead.
  3. Enter the Price. Leave it empty if the product is free.
  4. Enter the Cost price if you know what the club paid. Buyers never see it. It is what makes the margin on the Compare page mean something.
  5. Leave Count the stock on for anything you can count. Turn it off for things like coffee from a machine.
  6. Under Tell me when stock drops below, enter the count at which you want a warning, for example 6. See Get told before something runs out.
  7. Leave Published on so members can see and buy it. Turn it off to keep it as a draft.
  8. Click Create product. Tick Create another first if you are working through a whole shelf.

Things without a barcode

Leave Barcode empty. Buyers find the product by typing its name under Search for a product, so give it the name people would type.

If the barcode is already in use

The dialog says "You already sell this" and names the product. Restock that one instead of creating a second. If the product was archived, restore it; an archived product keeps its barcode so a new one cannot take it over. See Take a product off sale.

Add a picture

Pictures are added after creating. Click the product, choose Picture in the left menu and click the picture to choose a file. One bottle filling the frame reads best; a buyer sees it at thumbnail size. Without a picture the product shows its initial.

Edit later

Click any product in the list. Details holds the name, barcode, price, cost price and published switch. Changes are saved with the Save changes bar that appears at the bottom.

Put a sticker on the fridge this weekend.

Create your club, add the products you already sell, print the QR code. Bippa is not a point-of-sale and never touches cash, so there is nothing else to set up.
